Dallas Ordinance Promotes Sustainable Development

Dallas partner Paul E. Ridley appears as a guest columnist in this month’s issue of Texas Construction Magazine, a McGraw-Hill Construction publication.

Appearing in the November 2008 issue, this article explores a new green building ordinance in Dallas the first phase of which will require commercial buildings over 50,000 sq ft to achieve 85% of the points required by the U.S. Green Building Council and becomes effective October 1, 2009.  The articles also explores the second phase of the ordinance which calls for the development of sustainability rules for all existing buildings and the overall implications of the ordinance for the city, including the eventual economic and environmental benefits.
